Kids of Shaumiani Young Farmers Center planted trees at the school yard. They’ve been working for two days to plant 30 pine-trees and spruces with the help of Algeti National Park rangers and Shaumiani school teachers.
“The planting was initiated by the YFC of Shaumiani. Children had an idea to plant the trees in the school yard, because there were no trees at all. With the help of rangers they learned how to plant and take care of the trees. We’re always happy about this kind of initiatives, because children gain good experience and become more ecofriendly – Said Baiko Poilarashvili, EDKK project liaison officer.
With YFC children, people from Shaumiani IDP settlement also contributed in planting.
One of the main objectives of the project Economic Development through Agricultural Assistance for IDP Farmers in Kvemo Kartli and Kakheti regions (EDKK) is to encourage young people to get involved in agro-entrepreneurship and community development. To fulfil this aim, Young Farmers Centers (YFCs) were created to teach young people leadership skills, new farming techniques and community engagement in order to cultivate future farmers and active citizens. YFCs bring together local and IDP students.
EDKK project is funded by German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and supported by World Vision Germany.
