Within the USAID Zrda Activity in Georgia, RDFG DRR Center held meetings with the representatives of the Tsalenjikha and Zugdidi Municipality City Halls

On July 8-9, 2019, Association Rural Development for Future Georgia (RDFG) DRR Center organized the working meetings with the representatives of the Tsalenjikha and Zugdidi Municipality City Halls. The events were held within the USAID Zrda Activity in Georgia and their main purpose was to introduce RDFG DRR Center’s planned activities related to disaster risk reduction in the 9 target regions of Georgia. At the meetings, the discussions were held about the risks of natural and technogenic disasters and the development of their management plan at the municipal level after which the representatives of the local Municipality City Halls declared their readiness for future cooperation. Furthermore, as long as they have appropriate resources, they have also expressed their willingness for full support and mobilization. The meetings were led by Shota Kublashvili, RDFG emergency management and disaster risk reduction expert.

On July 8, 2019, the introductory-working meeting held in the city of Tsalenjikha was attended by Tsotne Shonia, deputy mayor of the Tsalenjikha Municipality City Hall, Gocha Murghulia, head of the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Main Division of the Emergency Management Service and Kiazo Sajaia, head of the Tsalenjikha Fire Rescue Division. After the first event, within the second meeting about the disaster risk evaluation, 4 main hazards were identified for which the emergency management plan will be developed. The second meeting was attended by the same persons as the first, also by the representatives of the local municipality city hall and the mayor’s representatives in the administration units, all in all up to 40 citizens.

On July 9, 2019, the introductory-working meeting held in the city of Zugdidi was attended by Giga Parulava and Konstantine Kakava, deputy mayors of the Zugdidi Municipality City Hall and Gocha Murghulia, head of the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Main Division of the Emergency Management Service. The meeting about the disaster risk evaluation was held on the same day, 4 main hazards were identified for which the emergency management plan will be developed, too. The second meeting was attended by the same persons as the first event, also by the representatives of the municipality city hall and the mayor’s representatives in the administration units, all in all up to 50 citizens.

USAID Zrda Activity is a five-year program designed to promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth in target regions. As it is impossible to support the sustainable economic development without creating safe environment, the project consists of disaster risk reduction activities on the local level, elaborating municipal emergency management plans according to modern standards and implementing relevant methods at the level of instructions. Within the project, DRR activities are being implemented by the Association Rural Development for Future Georgia (RDFG) and DRR Center of RDFG.
