Association Rural Development for Future Georgia (RDFG) met with the environmental protection and natural resources committee of the Parliament of Georgia to discuss the environmental issues

On 25 February, representatives of Association Rural Development for Future Georgia (RDFG) met with the first deputy chairperson of the environmental protection and natural resources committee of the Parliament of Georgia, Zaza Khutsishvili and presented the project “Assistance in safety improvement of tailings management facilities (TMF) in Armenia and Georgia” implemented by RDFG. At the meeting, RDFG representatives discussed the results of the legislative analysis of the management of tailings in Georgia and the recommendations elaborated based on the analysis. Recommendations encompass the changes in the legislative acts and the development of new regulations. During the meeting, RDFG also presented a document on the pollution of “Kvirila” river in Chiatura municipality written within the project. The document describes the current situation in Kvirila river and proposes solutions to the existing problems.

During the meeting the Association presented future activities of the project, including the meeting of the advisory board scheduled in April where the representatives of the environmental protection and natural resources committee of the Parliament of Georgia will be also present.

The project “Assistance in safety improvement of tailings management facilities (TMF) in Armenia and Georgia” is financed by the German Federal Environment Ministry’s Advisory Assistance Programme (AAP) for environmental protection in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia and other countries neighbouring the European Union. The project is supervised by the German Environment Agency (UBA) and implemented by the Association Rural Development for Future Georgia (RDFG) and the Armenian non-governmental organisation “Eco Peace”.
